Best trip! I highly recommend doing a guided trip. Steve took us to the best locations and we surfed 3 days of amazing waves all to ourselves!!! Still pinching myself that a surf trip like this still exists in 2024.

Surf Level Guide

Everyone has a different view on their surf level. Here’s the guide we use, and you should refer to when deciding your level of experience.

Beginner - level 1.

Never surfed before - but really want to! Bonus - I can swim. You’re hoping to progress to “Kook” - but not entirely sure what that means yet.

Beginner - level 2.

Have had some form of surf experience, comfortable in the ocean with small waves (waist to shoulder high). You know the basics of surfing and reading the waves. Able to stand on broken waves and paddling your board on your own steam. The stoke is real - you’re high fiving your firends for every wave you and they catch!

Beginner - level 3.

Refining your paddling technique and wave judgment, able to catch most waves you paddle for. Looking to catch unbroken waves, stand up and trim along the unbroken face of the wave. You may not be aware of it yet, but you’re addicted to surfing for the rest of your life. All future weekends and spare time will be spent checking surf conditions and where to surf next.

Intermediate - level 1.

A competent paddler in most conditions. Able to read the surf and ocean pretty well to match your ability to the conditions. Your trimming and starting to do turns on small to medium size waves. You’re starting to look at some better wave locations to surf and learning a new language - words like “bottom turn, cutback and stoked” have entered your vocabulary.

Intermediate - level 2.

Congratulations - You’ve got your first “proper” barrel and you are able to consistently do turns and cutbacks “mostly” matching the right part of the wave. You’re a strong padder and pretty confident in your ability in most conditions - able to adapt your surfing when surf conditions change. Your froth levels are super high right now - in fact this is arguably the best stage of your surfing life.

Advanced level.

Very strong paddler in the gnarliest conditions. Your able to find a barrel even when its onshore, choosing the right manoeuvre for anything the wave throws at you. Generally thinking… “I’ve got this surfing game, its awesome and so am I… think I might drop in on this kook!”

Professional level.

You don’t need to be told about your skill level - you know you’re shit hot. Unfortunately you’ve now reach a level where you have become too competitive with yourself and others that surfing is no longer enjoyable. Unless its the biggest barrel Teahupoo and its gone viral on instagram - then what’s the point of it all. It’s time to reevaluant why you surf and get stoked on sharing a lifetime of surfing knowledge with others.

Please note; We try to have similar levels of surfers in each trip but understand we all have different strengths and weaknesses. On our guided trips we do our best to satisfy everyones different needs and wants, while also understanding its our policy and our guides responsibility to make sure everyone is comfortable with the conditions before entering the surf. If you are unsure of your surf level you can email or call us before booking your surf trip, or at anytime whilst on your surf trip you should speak to your surf guide and let them know your concerns.
